Early IDEAS / Sketches
Originally, I created 8 concepts in mind for this project. I developed three potential ideas for each concept, which are the sketches on the left. Each project covered a different area of technology and how it negatively impacts our mental health. The concepts are as follows:
Concept 1: Technology desensitizes us and lowers our empathy.
Concept 2: We are often jealous of what others have and are blind to what we have (related to social media).
Concept 3: We often spend too much time devoted to technology instead of more important matters.
Concept 4: The post-COVID-19 impact on our usage of technology.
Concept 5: We are glued to our phone screens and are blinded to our natural surroundings.
Concept 6: Too much technology usage makes us lazy and demotivated to try.
Concept 7: We often fall into a deep rabbit-hole of "endless" online content.
Concept 8: We are afraid of what others expect from us and project our fears onto others.
Ultimately, I chose concept 8 as the idea I would pursue. I expanded on the idea to be more focused on the fear of missing out (FOMO) than expectations because of how the two concepts are connected. I felt that FOMO would be a stronger concept for me to depict in a visual storytelling format.
