We compare ourselves to others too often when we look through their social media. Typically, people only share the highlights of their lives and not the more difficult moments. These two factors strongly contribute to the fear of missing out, which many young teenagers and adults experience. Fear of missing out can be tiring and demotivating in many ways. However, it does not need to be this way. Though it is okay to experience negative emotions such as the fear of missing out, it is up to the individual whether they want to lift themselves or stay trapped in self-deprecation. Though social media is tempting, it sometimes is healthier for the individual to distance themselves from these platforms.
